The first two months of 2024 reveals significant growth in the number of companies opened in the state compared to the same period of the previous year. According to data from the Commercial Board of Rio Grande do Sul (Jucergs), there was a 12.2% increase in the formation of companies in the region. This initial boost of the year is attributed to a more favorable economic situation, marked by less pressure and uncertainty.

The improvement in key indicators, such as inflation and interest rates, as well as a more attractive environment for investments, contributed to the positive scenario. CIC’s Vice President of Industry and specialist in the area, Ruben Bisi highlights that 80% of this increase is related to Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEIs).

In January and February this year, Rio Grande do Sul saw the opening of 44,240 new companies, an increase of 4,809 compared to the same period of the previous year. The individual microentrepreneur (MEI) and limited company (Ltd) sectors stand out in this panorama, indicating a diversification in the regional business fabric.

Bisi links the advancement of data to companies providing services and commerce in the area of tourism opened here in the region, mainly in Serra Gaúcha, in the hortênsias region. He assesses that including micro-entrepreneurs in the same statistics as large companies could be harmful given that the realities and operational needs are quite different.

The increase in company formation in the state reflects a positive response to various stimuli, including a more stable and predictable economy. Furthermore, a movement to reduce bureaucracy and digitize business openings is underway, facilitating and speeding up processes for entrepreneurs.
