In Assis Chateaubriand, a municipality in western Paraná, the drought wiped out crops. The concern is enormous. The City Council instructed the Executive to carry out studies for the Emergency Decree. “The Assis producer is undercapitalized due to several frustrations. There was a big drop in the last soybean harvested and today’s price is half the price of soybeans sold a year and a half ago. And there is also the production cost factor, which is very high today. That’s why we forwarded this nomination”, reports the councilor and president of the Rural Union of Assis Chateaubriand, Valdemar Melato. According to Melato, the emergency decree can facilitate the renegotiation of producers’ debts with financial agents. From now on, the indication must be analyzed by the city hall, with the involvement of Civil Defense and the Department of Agriculture.

In the western region of Paraná, the most affected municipalities are Assis Chateaubriand, Palotina, Terra Roxa and Guaíra. “Even if it rains again, the consolidated damage is already high. There are crops with a 100% drop and other municipalities are already moving in the same direction, aiming for the emergency decree. Palotina is one of them.” According to the Agriculture Federation of the State of Paraná (Faep), this should be the second biggest drop in the historical series, an impact of almost 20 million tons.
