A platform where artisans and small entrepreneurs from Rio can market products online: this is the proposal of Buy.Rioa new marketplace launched by the City of Rio. With a look similar to other sales sites, the virtual address allows solidarity economy workers to make sales easily over the internet, without having to pay fees.

The technical cooperation agreement to launch the platform was signed last Thursday (28), at the Palácio da Cidade, with the participation of Mayor Eduardo Paes and Secretary of Solidarity Economic Development Diego Zeidan. “Compre.Rio is a platform that brings small producers closer to consumers in general. It generates more income, more sales for small business owners, increasing the revenue of each business and the trader’s quality of life”, highlighted the secretary.

With the entry into the online sales segment, new opportunities may open up for merchants. “At fairs, we have a good audience, but it is limited. Today, online sales are gaining a lot of space, almost dominating”, said artisan Maria Eulália Almeida Melo, who has worked in the segment for five years and hopes to increase sales with the support of the virtual store.

Continues after advertising

Shining a spotlight on local commerce, the initiative aims to encourage the generation of income and employment, in addition to giving visibility and recognition to solidarity economy enterprises. The project is the result of a technical cooperation agreement between the City of Rio, through the Secretariat for Solidarity Economic Development, and the Maricá Development Company (Codemar), with support from the Post Office for the delivery of the products offered.

Registering local entrepreneurs can be done free of charge via the website. The seller must be over 18 years old and have a valid email and cell phone. The platform promises a response within 72 years after sending the registration data about the release of the virtual store.
