Bill Indicative 01/24, which proposes a reduction in the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) rate for minibuses, was approved by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and the Plenary. The project is authored by the state deputy and vice-president of the Legislative Assembly of Piauí, Evaldo Gomes (Solidarity).

The PL aims to reduce the current tax from 2.5% to 1%. According to Evaldo Gomes, the initiative arose from dialogue with associations and owners of alternative transport in Piauí, given the high tariffs that make the maintenance and operation of these vehicles difficult. The parliamentarian also pointed out that this reduction in IPVA for intercity transport minibuses should encourage the growth of the sector, which will be able to offer more quality transport to the population.

“The current fare price is impractical. People who live in neighboring municipalities and who come to Teresina, or vice versa, suffer from the absurd price of fares. Therefore, we presented to the state governor an indication of a law that reduces the IPVA of alternative transport. By reducing the tax, people will be able to keep their vans and purchase new cars, giving the population a new public transport alternative”, highlighted deputy Evaldo Gomes.

After approval by parliamentarians, the Bill must go to the State Government, which can accept the suggestion.
