A Municipal Health Foundation (FMS) confirmed, during the afternoon of this Wednesday (24), the second death caused by dengue in a patient residing in Ponta Grossa. The victim is a female patient, aged between 18 and 29 years old. The death occurred during the month of April. It is worth remembering that the first death due to the disease was confirmed last Thursday (18), the victim was also a female patient, but aged between 40 and 49 years.

The president of the Municipal Health Foundation, Priscila Degraf, says that the Municipality is devastated with yet another life lost due to the disease and once again emphasizes the importance of maintaining care to prevent the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits dengue. She highlights that the daily joint efforts carried out by Ponta Grossa City Hall encounter worrying situations.

“In the first two days of the joint effort alone, we found and removed 419 breeding sites and destroyed around 400 mosquito outbreaks. The fight against dengue will only be possible with everyone’s unity and awareness. This is the only way we will be able to control the progression of the disease. In about ten minutes, each person can help by cleaning backyards and eliminating areas with stagnant water, both large spaces, such as swimming pools, and small spaces, such as bottle caps”, he emphasizes.

CONFIRMED CASES – Last Tuesday (23), the aRede Portal reported that Ponta Grossa reached 1,887 confirmed cases of dengue, according to the weekly report on the disease prepared and published by the State Department of Health (Sesa) this Tuesday (23). The municipality had an increase of 56.8% in cases, compared to the 1,203 confirmations recorded in the bulletin released on April 16, which represents 684 new confirmations of the disease.

In the 3rd Health Region of Ponta Grossa, which covers Arapoti, Carambeí, Castro, Ipiranga, Ivaí, Jaguariaíva, Palmeira, Piraí do Sul, Ponta Grossa, Porto Amazonas, São João do Triunfo and Sengés, the total number of cases reached 2,957 cases confirmed, 54.6% more than the previous bulletin, where 1,912 confirmations were recorded. The region has already recorded two deaths (including the one in Ponta Grossa) in this epidemiological period.

REPORTING CHANNEL – Ponta Grossa City Hall launched an exclusive channel for complaints involving possible dengue mosquito outbreaks. Using WhatsApp (42) 99830-3526, from 8am to 5pm, residents can report situations such as abandoned land with stagnant water, including sending photos.

The Municipality has taken measures both to contain the spread of dengue and to guarantee care for patients with symptoms. A tent recently installed in the UPA Santa Paula parking lot served around 1,100 patients evaluated in screening and risk classification in three days. In addition to these patients, another 428 visits to children were carried out at the UPA pediatric outpatient clinic, totaling 1,563 visits.
