Owners of dogs and cats in the municipality will now have a specific place to treat their animals. Mayor Irineu Nogueira hands over to the community this Wednesday, the 3rd, the space that will house the new Animal Welfare facilities, a sector linked to the Zoonoses area of the Municipal Health Department. The handover ceremony takes place at 3 pm.
The site, located in the former building of Colégio Reinaldo Maia Souto, “Reinaldinho”, on Rua Dona Apolinária, in the city center, underwent adaptation works that included changing the roof, maintaining the electrical network, building a ramp and painting of rooms, among other interventions.

Several free services will be offered in the space, in addition to diagnosis with imaging tests, such as x-rays and ultrasound, treatment for sporotrichosis, with veterinary monitoring and medications. “This initiative is a great achievement for the animal cause and complements the services we already provide in this area through the Animal Welfare Sector, such as Dog and Cat Adoption Fairs, in addition to the neutering of animals, through the partnership with RJ PET”, explains the Secretary of Health, Luiz Eduardo Saldanha.
“The new space is an important achievement for the animal cause in Itatiaia. The unit will offer veterinary consultations and assistance for scheduling castrations”, informs the coordinator of Animal Welfare, Lucimar Soares.
Mayor Irineu Nogueira highlights that supporting the animal cause is a topic that has always caught his attention. According to Nogueira, promoting and encouraging respect for animal life should be one of the priorities of public administration. “With this new space we expand actions around animal welfare, giving the attention and care that the sector deserves”, concludes the Chief Executive.
