Non-melanoma skin cancer is the one with the highest incidence in Brazil. It corresponds to 31.3% of cases, according to data from Inca (National Cancer Institute).

Melanoma: It is necessary to observe the moles on the body — any brownish or black mole that changes color, shape or size, is itchy and/or is bleeding should be evaluated by a dermatologist.

Non-melanoma: This is the most common, and is divided into two types, according to the tissue in which it originates, with basal cell carcinoma being the most common of them. It usually appears on sun-exposed areas such as the face, ears, neck, scalp, shoulders and back. It typically presents as a reddish spot or papule that bleeds easily and does not heal, resulting in a persistent wound. The second is squamous cell carcinoma, which arises from the squamous cells of the skin and is also more common in areas exposed to the sun. It tends to affect more men than women and manifests itself as wart-like lesions, which can bleed. These lesions can form scabs and small wounds that do not heal.

If you have any doubts about a mole or spot, see a doctor as soon as possible, early diagnosis helps save lives and prevents the disease from affecting other areas of the body.
