Harvey Weinstein leaves prison temporarily to undergo exams | Pop & Art

Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer said this Saturday (27) that the former movie mogul was hospitalized for a series of tests in New York.

(CORRECTION: when publishing this report, g1 was wrong to report that Harvey Weistein was hospitalized after leaving prison. In fact, he left prison temporarily to undergo tests at a hospital. The report was corrected at 4:10 p.m.).

Attorney Arthur Aidala said Weinstein went to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan and that it typically takes one to two weeks for U.S. prison authorities to transport a prisoner.

“He was not treated well. They refused to give him a drink of water, food, or a bathroom break,” Aidala said. “He is a sick 72-year-old man.”

Aidala said Bellevue doctors planned to perform several tests on Weinstein before he returned to the Rikers Island prison complex. The lawyer said he has an appointment with Weinstein on Monday (29).

The accusations against Weinstein began in 2017, when a group of women reported sexual assaults committed by the Hollywood mega-producer.

Other women followed the movement and began sharing stories of abuse using the MeToo hashtag on social media.

The conviction overturned on Thursday, which established 23 years in prison, referred to two cases: first-degree sexual assault for performing forced oral sex on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi, in July 2006, and third-degree rape by former actress Jessica Mann, in March 2013.

Despite the annulment of the conviction, Weinstein will remain in prison due to another rape conviction in a Los Angeles court. This second sentence, 16 years in prison, was given in 2022. He is currently in a New York prison.
