Chris Hemsworth, an Australian actor known for his role as the superhero Thor in the Marvel Universe series, denied that he is retiring from his acting career and that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The actor clarified the rumors during an interview with the American magazine Vanity Fair, published this Monday (30).

Two years ago, while recording the National Geographic series “Limitless”, Hemsworth discovered that he has two copies of the APOE e4 gene, which is linked to a greater risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The gene does not determine the fate of those who have it, but it means that the star is eight to ten times more likely to receive a diagnosis in the future.

“That really pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared [que tenho um tipo de demência]”, reported the actor. “As much as I said, ‘This isn’t a death sentence,’ the story became that I had dementia and was going to retire,” he said.

The actor It even “slowed down” professional life after discovering that he has a predisposition to Alzheimer’s, but made it clear that this does not mean an early retirement. “I read a really funny comment at the end of an article that said, ‘I hope Chris forgets about retiring and goes back to acting,’” he recalled to Vanity Fair.

Hemsworth will soon return to the big screen with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”where plays the villain Dementus. Spin-off from the dystopian universe of “Mad Max”created by George Miller in the 1970s, the film is scheduled for release on May 24th this year.
