Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially left the Frogmore Cottage property, close to Windsor Castle, in June 2023. But what many people don’t know is that they were “evicted” in March of that same year, in apparent retaliation from the king Charles III.
The information comes from royal biographer Tom Quinn, to the newspaper The Mirror, where he states that the prince left the house “furious” and “in tears”, and that he felt the order to leave like a “slap in the face”.
It is worth remembering that at the beginning of last year, Harry published his memory book, “What Remains”, and it would have been the “final straw” for the already troubled relationship with his royal relatives.
According to writer Tom Quinn, the prince considered that his father had no right to evict him and considered the attitude as revenge.
“At the time, few people realized that the Frogmore eviction was a slap in the face to Harry, it was the final straw. Harry was absolutely furious and in tears over being evicted from Frogmore, he felt that his father had no right to do this and that he was purely vindictive. Harry could not see that choosing to stop being a royal worker would inevitably mean being deprived of his royal residence. Harry took it as a cruel rejection, a painful reminder of everything he felt when his father fought with his mother during their long, painful divorce,” says Quinn.
Despite having moved to California, in the United States, in 2020, the act would be a reflection of the wear and tear between them and their royal relatives, mainly due to Harry’s official break with the British monarchy.
In April 2023, Harry stayed at Frogmore House to monitor the progress of the lawsuit against British tabloids. But at the time, the royal estate inventory report noted that Frogmore House was “vacant”.
“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” the couple’s spokesperson said in early March.
The Sun and The Telegraph newspapers, which had revealed the information hours earlier, said that Buckingham Palace sent “an expulsion notice” to the couple, who left the United Kingdom in 2020 and, since then, have multiplied their jabs at the royal family. .
