The series that dominated Netflix, overshadowed The 3-Body Problem and is already one of the most watched on the platform – News Series – as seen on the Web

A huge success that certainly not even Netflix executives expected.

One of Netflix’s greatest strengths is achieving great successes with productions that weren’t expected much from. Round 6 is the best example of this, but we’ve had others over the years. One of the most recent is Crime Tycoons, a series inspired by the notable film by Guy Ritchie that was among the most watched on streaming for weeks.

An unexpected phenomenon on Netflix

Launched on March 7, Tycoons of Crime arrived without making much noise on the platform. It’s true that Ritchie himself was in charge of directing the first episodes and that it featured an outstanding cast that included Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito, but it seemed like it would be quickly forgotten. That wasn’t the case.

Since its release, Crime Tycoons has accumulated an estimated total of 68.1 million views, which puts it today practically on the same level as the 2nd season of Lupine, a phenomenon at the time and which reached 68.4 million in 91 days. The one we’re dealing with now still has a few more weeks to add viewers.

Furthermore, Crime Tycoons completely eclipsed The 3-Body Problem. It’s true that the ambitious sci-fi series from the creators of Game of Thrones premiered a few weeks later, but it also actually had worse numbers.

In fact, The 3-Body Problem now has an estimated total of 46.6 million views, so Crime Tycoons has racked up almost 50% more. Certainly no one at Netflix expected anything like this, and the strange thing is that they haven’t announced its renewal for season 2 yet.

In the Crime Tycoons series, Eddie Horniman (Theo James), a young English aristocrat, is surprised to discover that his father left him a considerable inheritance: a huge family rural property. To his surprise, the available hectares are part of a marijuana empire. Completing the combo of surprises, Horniman receives big names from the criminal underworld at his new property, who try to participate in the operation. Determined to protect his family and the legacy left by his father from the clutches of criminals, he ends up playing the game, but crime becomes a viable option as he learns more about this new world.
