Coverage of the climate tragedy that hit Rio Grande do Sul – Civil Defense confirmed 95 deaths and reported that another 131 people were still missing – caused a point of tension between SBT, Globo and the Federal Government.

Sent to Porto Alegre to cover the catastrophe, Márcia Dantas reported in Tá na Hora that she caught trucks with donations for the victims being stopped and fined by the authorities. “ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) would be blocking Civil Defense trucks, with humanitarian aid, because they do not have an invoice and are a little overweight”, said the journalist.

Straight from the studios in São Paulo, Marcão do Povo lamented the supposed situation. “I get emotional, because we are going through one of the most difficult times, one of the biggest catastrophes in the country’s history. The people are suffering, dying, without having anything to eat. Brazil is mobilized and some trucks are fined because they don’t have an invoice. A very sad,” he declared.

In a note, the ANTT denied SBT. “The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) clarifies that, during this emergency period, it is not retaining cargo vehicles on access roads to Rio Grande do Sul. Cargo vehicles that pass through scales on highways that access the State pass through a simplified inspection procedure and are released to continue their journey. There is no request for an invoice or fines for vehicles carrying donations”, he informed.

“The videos circulating on the internet that claim that ANTT retained donation vehicles do not match the reality of the facts. ANTT is committed to facilitating the movement of cargo, especially basic necessities, to supply the population affected by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to mobilizing teams from the Agency itself and regulated entities to help the affected population and reestablish normality”, he added.

Given the repercussion, all the content with the complaint, shared exhaustively by Bolsonarist profiles who “embraced” the narrative, simply disappeared from the official channels of Silvio Santos’ broadcaster. O NaTelinha spoke with professionals from the SBT editorial team and, internally, they believe that the matter has several erroneous points in its approach. Another factor that resonates behind the scenes is the critical and ideological tone adopted by Marcão do Povo on the Tá na Hora program.

On social media, journalists from different outlets criticized the channel’s approach and accused it of contributing to the spread of fake news – names like Eduardo Bolsonaro, Pablo Marçal and Nikolas Ferreira spent the last few hours sharing the video. On GloboNews, Natura Nery said that the news “came from a correct address. It came from a coach, called Pablo Marçal, who posted a video telling this lie.” In reaction to the rumors, the Federal Government activated the Federal Police and the Federal Attorney General’s Office against fake news involving the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

“I’m really outraged. I think it’s a joke. There are people working 24 hours a day, four days without sleep. People putting their lives at risk to save people. Meanwhile, there is a fake news industry fed by parliamentarians, by influencers, by people who are dedicated to hindering the effort being made to save lives”, lamented the Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta.

Márcia Dantas speaks out in the face of controversy involving SBT

In a sequence of stories on her Instagram profile, Márcia Dantas informed that SBT journalism does not engage in politics. “SBT’s journalism is not based on politics. So, people who are coming on this profile to praise based on politics or to attack… That’s not it!”, she said.

“In relation to the truck drivers’ complaint, we only reported what happened to our team. There was an inspection, there was a fine, we reported it and ANTT said it would review these fines. That was the situation and there is a bureaucracy that, at times Sometimes it hinders the arrival of donations. But I don’t want controversy with that”, warned Márcia.

“Our objective as a journalist is to make this volunteer work better, that is, for people to be helped more quickly. We don’t want to attack the government, we don’t want to attack side A or B, whoever told the truth or whoever did not speak. We made the complaint, ANTT responded to our call and sent a note. That is our role”, concluded the journalist.

This Wednesday morning (8), during a live appearance on Chega Mais, Márcia Dantas spoke again on the subject, with a statement from SBT. “We are not here to disseminate hate speech and political speeches. SBT does not disseminate fake news, we are a broadcaster committed to the truth, we are here to help the population of Rio Grande do Sul, we are here to inform, to help with these donations At no point did we publish fake news. We were taken by surprise yesterday by a situation, informing us that our broadcaster was going against other broadcasters, making hate speech, and in fact that is not our objective”, he commented. .

“So the situation of the truck drivers that we caught coming here in Santa Catarina, it actually happened. The National Land Transport Agency issued a note just now saying that the fine will be annulled, that they recognize that the fine was made, but that it will be annulled. If our journalism makes any mistakes, we will be transparent and we will put this information here and correct it because it is our commitment. But in this case we do not spread fake news, we were not politicized and we are not using it. political discourse is for nothing and it is important that we make this very clear”, he added.
