Manoel Carlos appeared in a recording this Wednesday (1st) sunbathing with a hat (photo at the end of the article). The rare photo takes place in a publication by the newspaper O Globo, which interviewed his daughter Júlia Almeida. She prepares Maneco’s biography, the nickname by which he became known.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s six years ago, she stated that her father leads a peaceful life in the apartment he has in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. “It’s a treatable disease. He is very well advised by doctors and has companions. He is being looked after properly, he has my mother by his side. She retired with him”, she told the newspaper.

Now, he has taken on the responsibility of telling the story of his father Manoel Carlos. “What he really wants is for the work to continue for other generations. I understood what was passed on to me.”

According to Júlia, she sat next to the veteran last year and explained that he was retired. But she wanted everything very well organized. Her mission is to gather several files. “He is leaving a very important legacy for our country, not only for the history of Brazilian television, but for all of us”, she is proud.

The project should be launched in 2025. Currently, she is dedicated to interviewing people to gain different points of view. “It could be a film, it could be a series. It could be someone who builds on the story. The idea is to think about each synopsis and new work in a unique way. Always keeping its roots, but of course, it has to have the language of today.”

Manoel Carlos will be honored at Globo

This Friday (3), the 91-year-old author will be honored in the Tribute series, after Globo Repórter. “He didn’t know it was going to happen, he wasn’t invited. It was a surprise because it was on his birthday. We found out about it through third parties. And then we found out in bits and pieces”, he reveals.

According to Julia, Maneco missed Regina Duarte and José Mayer in the work. “I thought it was beautiful [Tributo], I got emotional. I really appreciate everyone,” she said.
