Since January, Globo has been showing a new version of Renascer, a soap opera that marked an era on the network’s screen in 1993. Benedito Ruy Barbosa’s plot featured several notable cast members and, to date, two of them are participating in the new version.
Marcos Palmeira, who played João Pedro in the original, now plays the character’s father, José Inocêncio; Jackson Antunes, who was the killer Damião, now plays the farmer’s right-hand man, Deocleciano. Adriana Esteves, who played Mariana, was invited to participate, but did not accept.
Unfortunately, several names from the cast of the first version of the plot have already left us and, therefore, cannot participate in the remake.
Remember some of them:
Regina Maria Dourado – Brunette
Regina Maria Dourado was very successful as Morena in the first version of Renascer. The actress also scored other notable works, such as Explode Coração (1995), América (2005) and Caminhos do Coração (2007), her last soap opera.
She died on October 27, 2012, aged 59, from breast cancer.
In the new version of Renascer, Morena is played by Ana Cecília Costa.
Leila Lopes – Lu
Professor Lu designed the career of Leila Lopes, who appeared in other characters in soap operas after this work. She even disappeared from TV and participated in pornographic films.
Fighting depression, Leila Lopes took her own life on December 3, 2009, at the age of 50.
In the remake, the character will be played by Eli Ferreira.
Luís Carlos Arutin – Rachid
Veteran Luis Carlos Arutin was quite successful as Rachid, owner of the catchphrase “not Turkish, we are Lebanese”. The actor was also in soap operas such as A Gata Comeu (1985) and A Agência da Loba (1995), his last serial.
He died on January 8, 1996, at the age of 62, a victim of asphyxiation while trying to save furniture and objects in a fire that broke out in his apartment in Niterói (RJ).
In the remake, Almir Sater brings the Lebanese to life.
Chica Xavier – Inácia
A veteran of Brazilian television, Chica Xavier scored the first version of Renascer como Inácia. It was one of several soap operas by the artist, who ended her TV career in Cheias de Charme (2012).
The veteran actress died on August 8, 2020, at the age of 88, due to lung cancer. She was married to actor Clementino Kelé for over 60 years.
Edvana Carvalho plays Inácia in the remake.
