Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took the case factor and secured pole for the Formula 1 Dutch GP, the 15th stage of the season, with a 1:10.342. This is the tenth time that the Dutchman will start in first position this year.

Ferrai’s Leclerc and Sainz took second and third respectively. Mercedes’ Hamilton will start fourth, while teammate Russell starts sixth. The Mexican Sergio Pérez already ran with the clock zeroed and was in fifth position.

Pole for Verstappen marks a recovery for the driver at Zandvoort. He had to retire from FP1 due to gearbox problems, he was eighth in FP2, and third in FP3.

Verstappen was the one who led Q1. The Dutchman flew with a time of 1:11.317 and took the lead. Hamilton managed 1:11.331 at the end and took second place. AlphaTauri’s Tsunoda surprised and finished third. Bottas, Magnusse, Ricciardo, Vettel and Latifi were eliminated from the session.

The start of Q2 was troubled. Early on, a red flag was given due to an orange smoke flare thrown on the track. The GP organization displayed a message stating that “fans who light the object would be expelled”. The session was still marked by pigeons on the circuit, which were scared away by the race inspectors.

Ferrari drivers Leclerc and Sainz recovered from their timid performance in the first few laps of Q2, and returned to the top positions. The Spaniard took the lead, with 1:10.814, while the Monegasque finished fourth. Second and third were George Russell and Verstappen. The eliminated ones were: Gasly, Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Zhou and Albon.

Isolated leader in the general classification, with 284 points, Verstappen can shoot even more in the World. The drivers return to the tracks for the race at the Park Zandvoort Circuit at 10 am (Brasilia) this Sunday.
