Originally scheduled to compete in the third fight of the UFC Atlantic City last Saturday (30), Melissa Gatto saw an Ultimate employee enter her locker room at the end of the second fight of the event. However, the visit – contrary to expectations – was not intended to summon the Brazilian to the octagon, but rather to inform her that her clash against Victoria Dudakova had been cancelled. In a video recorded exclusively for the news team, Ag Fightthe flyweight (57 kg) from Campinas (SP) recalled the episode and explained the motivation behind the company’s decision.

As announced by the card’s official broadcast, Gatto’s opponent experienced some medical issue and was prevented from competing. According to the Brazilian, Dudakova felt a kind of discomfort and claimed pain in the stomach area. The news, however, came as a surprise to Melissa, who was already in the final stretch of warming up in the locker room, ready to take action.

“Hey guys. Passing by to inform you that unfortunately my fight did not happen. As you saw, the fight was cancelled. I was already ready, bandaged, warmed up, practically just waiting for them to call me to fight. Unfortunately, when they called me to fight – the second fight had finished, mine was the third –, they didn’t call me to fight, but rather to say that my fight had been cancelled. Unfortunately, my opponent had problems and felt ill. I think she had a stomach problem. Then they informed me that the fight had been cancelled. I was sad, because I prepared and dedicated myself a lot in this camp, I was very well and focused. But that’s it, it’s all in God’s plans. I’m asking to fight, maybe at UFC Rio, in Brazil? I hope she gets well, first of all, that she recovers and that we can be fighting soon. And if it pleases God, let it be at UFC Brazil”, explained Gatto.

Is UFC Rio still possible?

Despite the interest in reinforcing the UFC Rio card, scheduled for May 4th, it is unlikely that Melissa Gatto will have her wish granted. After all, the show based in the ‘Marvelous City’ already has 14 confirmed fights – a number that is rarely exceeded in Ultimate events. The main attraction is the men’s flyweight title fight between champion Alexandre Pantoja and challenger Steve Erceg.
