This Sunday (31/3), in the 30th round of the English Premier League, Manchester City hosted Arsenal. The classic was worth a lot in the insane fight for the title. Current three-time champions, the Citizens entered the round with 63 points, in third place. But one behind Arsenal and Liverpool, the pointers. City made their touch of the ball count and had 75% possession. However, Arsenal showed their defensive quality, canceling most of the plays, and dangerous counterattacks. In the end, everything was the same, 0 to 0.

The result was tailor-made for Liverpool. The Reds beat Brighton 2-1 this Sunday and are now in the lead, with 67 points. Arsenal, who would return to the top if they won (they have a better balance) were on 65 points, now in second place. City, with 64, remains in third.

Gabriel Jesus commands Arsenal’s attacks

In the first 45 minutes, the classic was marked by balance. City, exchanging passes, owned possession, but had difficulty entering the area. With Haaland very well marked by Gabriel Magalhães, the chances appeared in short bursts with the entry of a surprise element. As with a header from Aké, goalkeeper Raya made a great save. Arsenal faced a lot of danger in moves with Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian started as a starter and showed a lot of attitude, looking for the game and appearing in three dangerous attacks. He almost scored with a shot from outside the box.

City on top, but Gunners on target

In the second half, City were more incisive, pushing Arsenal into defense. Kovacic had the first big opportunity, with a finish that took paint off the goalkeeper Raya’s post. At that time, City already had 75% possession against a struggling Arsenal. But the finishes were imprecise. To give you an idea, with 75 minutes of play, the numbers indicated seven shots for City and four for Arsenal. But only one shot from each team towards the goal. In the final ten minutes, City’s pressure was great. Haaland missed the best chance of the match, missing a tackle. Doku failed in another shot. But Arsenal had a good chance with Trossard. However, the ball didn’t go in and the 0-0 draw was a celebration for the Liverpool fans.
