Rio – Rio City Hall officially suspended, this Thursday (9), singer Bruno Mars’ shows in the city due to preparations for the 2024 Elections. The decision came one day after fans faced more than 14 hours of gigantic queues to purchasing tickets. For 21-year-old student Clara Glitz, the suspension notice right after sales sold out is a real disregard for her fans.

“This should have been exposed to the public! We’re going to get our money back, ok, but what does a fan have to do with the agreement between the city hall and the producer? Now we’re paying for it, because we were the ones who stayed in the queue, in the heat, who was stressed, who celebrated that he got the ticket and now they’re going to take it away from us. It’s the biggest disregard for the fan!”, said Clara.

To the DAY, Clara Glitz explained that she would celebrate her birthday at the event and that she is frustrated with the whole situation. “Rio always hosts shows in the months of September and October, so it has become almost a tradition for me to enjoy my birthday at an event and a show is something I really enjoy. So it was very special to discover that Bruno Mars would come precisely on the day of my birthday. Now it was very frustrating to lose this super gift, especially because I was already surrounded by my friends listening to Bruninho”, she lamented.

The student believes that the public should have been warned of the conflicts between the organizer and the city hall in advance. “It was a huge breach of expectations, but in relation to the problem, the biggest mistake was on the part of the producer who didn’t know how to respect the approval of the city hall. I just don’t understand how this took so long to be exposed, they waited for the pre-sale, the general sale to happen. and launching new dates. I think the public should have known from the beginning that we would take this risk. I think Eduardo Paes should have explained this before and made us aware”, he said.

Another fan who also reveals great frustration is student Cláudia Austin, 28 years old. She and her cousin left Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio, in the early hours of the morning to buy tickets at the box office and faced a queue of around 9 hours.

“How does a company of this size sell an event that has not been released? I left home at 3am or so in the morning to face a queue for pre-sales, I ended up putting myself at risk by my choice, as I know that the website’s system is horrible for purchasing. I made my father meet me in the priority line, as he is elderly”, he said.

Cláudia has been a fan of Bruno for around 10 years and explains that the most revolting thing is the mismatch of information. “It was 9 hours in line, in the sun. Production says one thing, the city hall says another. Then came this story of canceling sales and refunding the amount. Since credit card refunds are a never-ending headache, for the final date. I’m here waiting for a position”, he said.

Cláudia’s cousin, Victória Bernardo da Silva, 18 years old, revealed that she had the dream of going to a Bruno Mars concert. “I haven’t even been able to process everything yet. After waiting so long to get the ticket, only to have to cancel it in the end. I hope from the bottom of my heart that they will at least postpone it until a later date. Leaving a far away place in the early hours of the morning to get the ticket entry is not easy at all”, he said.

Administrator Anna Tito, 25 years old, is another fan who was hoping to watch the idol. To the DAYshe explained that she has been trying to go to shows since 2012, and that when she saw the announcement of the event in Rio, she created a series of expectations.

“I bought my ticket on the website. I tried pre-sale, but I couldn’t even get out of the queue, after just a few minutes all tickets were already sold out, so I left it to try when it opened to the general public. On Wednesday I was confident , I got all my friends, my boyfriend and family to join this madness with me, so that I could make this wish come true. After 10 minutes of queuing, I did it and I was able to buy the ticket, I was super happy, excited and fulfilled because after years I did. I finally got the opportunity to go to the show I wanted so much”, he said.

Anna said that she spent the day still in disbelief that she had achieved it and that when she saw the news of the suspension, she had no reaction and was very disappointed. “And now? We (the fans) were very upset, scared, especially after going through all that chaos on the website and seeing everything that people went through in person. We were upset and super disappointed by the lack of respect from the event organizers There are a lot of people from other states who need to organize themselves in advance to buy tickets and accommodation”, he added.

Finally, the administrator reinforced that she expected more from municipal management. “As mayor, we understand, but we don’t think his attitude towards the citizen is cool, that even though he saw everything, he didn’t stop sales or warn people that they shouldn’t buy for reasons of release due to the election. We don’t We knew and bought it. We thought everything was ok, especially because an event of this size cannot be resolved in days, it takes months to complete it”, he reinforced.

Like other fans, Anna hopes that the situation will be resolved and that new dates will be announced. “We just want to enjoy the show with everything right and safe!” she said.

The presentations would take place on October 4th and 5th at the Nilton Santos Stadium, Engenhão, in the North Zone. All tickets for the first day were sold out. The online sale lasted less than an hour.

Understand suspension

According to Mayor Eduardo Paes, the electoral process requires a very large mobilization of civil servants to take place and he also mentioned the need to have personnel from the Military Police and Municipal Guard for the elections.

“Imagining that any major event will take place in Rio de Janeiro (I would even say in Brazil) on the eve of the elections is absurd due to the need to mobilize a large number of these same public agents,” he said.

Following the mayor’s announcement, organizer Live Nation said this Thursday morning (9) that it will postpone ticket sales for the second day. However, it did not provide new dates for the first show.

“We will work closely with the mayor’s office to find a solution for fans. All pre-sale and on-sale information will be released soon along with updates on event dates,” the organization said.

In a note, the Electoral Court of Justice thanked the Rio City Council for its support and reinforced that holding the elections requires a broad mobilization of security forces, from different profiles and specialties, who act in an integrated manner.

“Participation that is not restricted to the challenging protection of more than five thousand polling places spread across the state, where there are around 30 thousand polling stations and almost 13 million voters from Rio de Janeiro vote. The action begins well before voting day and involves the protection of hubs and distribution centers, escort and the logistics of delivering the devices”, he said in a statement.

Despite this, the Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro recognized the importance of culture and the impact of events on the economy of a city with a notable tourist vocation. “What is not possible is to allow any activity to harm the public interest and spirit. Especially at a time when all choices are focused on the effective exercise of citizenship,” he said.
