In a confusing trial, the majority shareholder of SAF do Botafogo, John Textorwas suspended for 45 days and fined R$100,000 by the Plenary of STJD this Friday (26/4) for statements made after the defeat to Palm trees by 4 to 3, in November 2023, at Brazilian championship.

The final decision was 30 days of suspension and a fine of R$50,000 for violating article 243-F of the CBJD (offense to honor) and 15 days and a fine of R$50,000 under article 258 (conduct contrary to discipline or sports ethics). As he has already served 28 days (due to a preventive suspension), there are 17 days left on the hook.

The trial was postponed twice by the auditor and vice-president of the STJD, Felipe Bevilacqua, first due to a request for review and then requesting that the case be removed from the agenda after having received “new information” from Textor.

Lawyers Michel Asseff Filho and João Marçal Martins worked in John Textor’s defense. Of the R$100,000 fine, R$50,000 will be allocated to the CBF and the remaining R$50,000 to social support institutions.

In the first trial, by the 5th Disciplinary Commission of the STJD, on December 1st, the decision was for 35 days of suspension and a fine of R$25,000. The following day, Botafogo obtained a suspension, and Textor served a total of 28 days of suspension resulting from a preventive suspension.
