GWM decided to enter the fight with Toyota, Caoa Chery, Fiat and Jeep to try to become the first automaker to produce a flex plug-in hybrid car in Brazil. The model chosen was the renewed Jolion, which will be renamed when it arrives here and will be called Haval H4.

The report from the Canaltech traveled to China at the invitation of the automaker and had the opportunity to see the Haval H4 up close, which does not yet have a date to arrive in Brazil, but, given GWM’s intention to become a pioneer in having a car with a plug-in hybrid engine, in with flex technology in the country, this confirmation should not take long.

The Haval H4 will become the brand’s entry-level SUV here and will be positioned directly below the H6, which currently offers three distinct versions to the Brazilian consumer: a mild hybrid (HEV) and two plug-in hybrids (PHEV), including the GT, top of the line.

To differentiate itself from its bigger “brother”, the Jolion, or rather, the Haval H4, will have a different size, engine and price than the SUV that, today, fights head to head with the BYD Song Plus DM-i for the position of best-selling hybrid in the world. Brazil.

What is the GWM Haval H4 like?

It was not possible to drive the restyled Jolion during the brand’s global event in Xushui, a city near Baoding, but we found out that the look spotted will be the one applied to the Haval H4 when the model begins to be manufactured on the Iracemápolis conveyor belts, in the interior of São Paulo. Paul.

The look is much more modern than that of the previous generation of Jolion (in the photos in this article) and, certainly, in line with what the brand has been adopting as a strategy for the models in the line that have Brazil as their main target.

The Haval H4 is around 4.5 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.7 m, measurements that put it on par with the Jeep Compass and Toyota Corolla Cross, both with hybrid (but not flex) versions on sale in country.

In terms of engine, nothing has been officially confirmed, but the tendency is for GWM to adopt a powertrain consisting of a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with 170 hp along with the 135 hp electric engine. Together, they should deliver 240 hp and 54 kgf/m of torque to the driver. GWM’s idea is to start producing the Haval H4 between the first and second quarter of 2025.
