“I was in a band called Samson, and he was my big hero, idol and everything, when I was 18 or 19. I had recorded my first album in a studio with them and we were listening to the recordings. The bass player in Ian Gillan’s solo band was our producer, so we were all there together. I don’t smoke, but everyone in Samson smoked a lot of weed, and it was that weird thing you put in tobacco… hashish. we had a few beers and we went down to listen to the album and they were playing this thing and gave it to me”, recalled Bruce, who said he was surprised by the arrival of Ian Gillan afterwards, who listened to the recordings and asked who the singer was.
