After arrival of singer Madonna, in Rio de Janeiro, criminals began scamming and sending messages in the artist’s name, claiming that she was the victim of a robbery on a bus in the capital of Rio. The messages are sent in Spanish, English and Portuguese, with the aim of increasing the chances of the scam being successful.

In one of the messages, the scammers claim that Madonna ran out of money after the robbery and ask for help with a donation of a pix worth R$300.

“Hello friend, this is Madonna. I was traveling to Copacabana on bus 474 and I was robbed. I’m getting in touch to see if it’s possible to help me with a pix? If you want and can help me, press 1. Thanks, friend. I’ll wait for you at my show, huh”, says the text.

To try to convince the victims, the criminals also use a photo of the singer supposedly taken at the Copacabana Palace, where she is staying for the free concert next Saturday (4), in Rio de Janeiro.

“Hey. Here Madonna. I was robbed on the Jacarezinho-Copacabana bus. Please deposit Pix for me 300 reais.”

After reports on social media, authorities warn the singer’s fans and the general public never to share personal information or make financial transfers in response to suspicious requests like this.
