An Edmilson Filho on stage is already a guarantee of laughter. Imagine then a film in which the actor of hits like “Cine Holliúdy” and “O Shaolin do Sertão” plays two characters at the same time. This is one of the highlights of “Férias Trocadas”, a production directed by Bruno Barreto now showing in cinemas.

In the story, two families from different social classes have their trips to Colombia radically transformed, by changing the hotel where they will stay. While the humbler one is taken to a luxurious resort, the other, wealthier one, ends up in an inn in the middle of the woods.

Edmilson plays the father in these two families, who end up being the pivot of very funny situations. “Playing two characters is always a challenge, due to characterization time, since, in the same day, you have to leave one (role) to go to another in the next scene”, he observes.

“The composition was well thought out beforehand in relation to mannerisms, prosody and even body posture. But the biggest challenge was getting people to get into the story of those completely different characters, even though they knew, deep down, that it was the same actor. Based on the public response, I think it was mission accomplished”, he celebrates.

In addition to the unusual situation, which exposes each family to an environment they were not accustomed to, “Exchanged Holidays” also points to the need to value loving relationships and never let them fall into routine. The film reconnects the couples in some way and greatly values the issue of forgiveness between them.”

For the comedian, “we have a film that makes you laugh, but, at the same time, if you want a slightly deeper layer, you will find these elements present in many people’s relationships”. The scene’s companions are Aline Campos (on the poorer side) and Carol Castro (on the wealthier side).

“We have two actresses who can stay between comedy and drama. We read (the script) beforehand to see if there was chemistry with me. In every film I make, I like to meet the actors beforehand to know if we are on the same wavelength and vibe. And this becomes clear when you see the film”, he praises.

Aline scored three other recent works that have the same popular footprint, with “O Porteiro”, “Um Dia, Cinco Estrelas” and “Os Farofeiros”. With the latter, “Férias Trocadas” has several common points, starting with the family trip that doesn’t end up happening as everyone would like.

“There is a link that is love, family. No matter how difficult things may happen, the family, when it is united, when it opens up to make the best of each situation, everything works out in the end. It’s accepting the conditions that the universe imposes on you, no matter how much it breaks expectations”, analyzes the actress.

“Imagine if the vacation hadn’t been exchanged? It would all be the same, the learning wouldn’t come and everything would become repetitive. This is the main lesson of the film: accept the present moment and value it. More important than where you are is who you are around and what relationships you have built”, he highlights.

Carol Castro comments that she has always been a fan of Edmilson Filho. “His humor is very popular. He brings that acidic and intelligent humor that Ceará has. The way he brings this Northeast to the screen is incredible. I had already worked with Rodrigo Santana, who also does this very popular humor, but Edmilson brings this wonderful cultural touch”.

The biggest challenge for her was maintaining her comedic timing while going through a serious family problem, after her father – also actor Lucca de Castro – suffered an accident in Rio de Janeiro, while her daughter started filming “Férias Trocadas” in Isla Baru, Colombian city where most of the scenes were filmed.

“It was right at the beginning, even upon arrival in Colombia. Filming hadn’t started yet, we were in the pre-season, and it was something that stayed with me the entire trip. I am very much the basis of my family and, even from afar, I needed to resolve everything, from authorizing emergency surgery to transferring a hospital because the doctor is not working”, he recalls.

Carol Castro says that “the environment, Colombia, with that Nature, in addition to the fact of working, which always helps, still doing what you love”, was vital to staying on your feet. “Not that she has a positive side, but I used the pain to gain strength and put in the emotions that the character needed”, she reveals.
