Planet of the Apes: Reign premieres next week and during premiere of the film in Los Angeles, the director of the film, Wes Balland the new protagonist, Owen Teaguetold The Hollywood Reporter that they received support and tips from Matt Reeves It is Andy Serkisdirector and protagonist of the previous films.

“I had dinner with Matt because I knew him from our movie Mouse Guard (cancelled during the Disney/Fox deal) and I told him all these ideas we were doing,” said Wes Ball. “He was literally about to get on a plane to do the Batmanand after that dinner I felt like we were ready to make this film and have the support to make it.”

Already Andy Serkiswho shone like Caesar, talked to the young man Owen Teague about the process of acting with motion capture. “I’ve looked up to him since I was a kid and I wanted to absorb everything he gave me,” Teague said. The actor explained that Serkis told him the performance capture technology used to turn them into monkeys “is just acting, there’s no mystery. It’s not about impersonating a monkey, it’s really about finding the character’s truth and pursuing it.”

“When you watch the film, they’re not just generic monkeys on screen, each person has a developed and specific character in how they move and how they talk,” said the actor.

“When I finally showed the film to Andy, he wrote me a really nice email and gave me a thumbs up, that was it for me,” said director Wes Ball.

20th Century Studios aired 13 minutes of Planet of the Apes: Reignon the Disney panel at CinemaCon. The material mixed the beginning of the film with some scenes of great importance, and the Chippu was present at the event in Las Vegas. We left there with a very positive impression of the film.

All with a beautiful and wide image of the entire forest, where three monkeys enter the scene and notice a bird. They reflect on the freedom of birds to take things and bring them back. The trio goes to the nest, and finds three eggs. One of the monkeys suggests taking the eggs, but not all of them. He explains that they must leave one. They explore more, and find more eggs. Then, the eagle returns and pushes one of the monkeys, the protagonist Noah, down a cliff.

Noah hangs from trees and survives. We see an egg in his hand, and the monkey observes the beautiful landscape in front of him. We cut to Noah riding and talking to a village elder, and her father, about a dangerous group of monkeys and gorillas. These then attack the village. Noah wakes up to find his father disappearing in the middle of the fire, and finds himself completely alone.

It’s an intense sequence, which ends with Noah getting on his horse and setting off for revenge. Interestingly, the eagle appears again and guides him to his father’s body, who unfortunately passed away. After burying him, Noah sets out on his journey, motivated to remember what it means to be a monkey, and comes across a human who needs help.

The special effects are practically impeccable. Very similar to the trilogy, but very focused on the environment and the hero. He will avenge Vila himself and his father’s death. Wes Ball is inspired by what happened in the Caesar trilogy, does not abuse the monkeys’ ability to speak and seems to focus a lot on creating tension and immersion in the scenarios.
