The State Secretariat for Tourism of Alagoas (Setur) and the International Association of Cruise Lines – Clia (Cruise Lines International Association) announced an increase in beds offered for the 24/25 season. In this way, the State consolidates the success of the 2023/2024 cruise season at Destination Alagoas in an event that brought together local authorities and representatives of the Alagoas tourist trade. The estimate is that 14 ships will arrive at the Port of Maceió, making 33 stops in the capital.

According to data from Clia, the last season registered more than 141 thousand beds, and the estimate is that more than 148 thousand beds will be offered in the 24/25 season, which starts in November and runs until April 2025.

According to the Secretary of State for Tourism of Alagoas, Bárbara Braga, the increase in cruises represents the capacity that Destination Alagoas has to receive more and more tourists arriving in the State through the capital’s Port. “We have just finished the 2023/2024 cruise season, which was the biggest season in the history of Alagoas. With the announcement made during the season review meeting, we know that the next one will be even bigger. This demonstrates how much our destination is loved by tourists, and how much cruise companies invest in our state. Together with the Government of Alagoas, we have been working tirelessly so that we can increasingly expand the offer of responsible, high-quality tourism to our visitors”, highlighted the secretary.

Historical performance of the 23/24 cruise season

In the 23/24 season, the Port of the capital of Alagoas recorded an intense flow of tourists during the five months of cruise operation. In total, 10 ships arrived at the port of Maceió, with 28 stops between November 2023 and April 2024.

Until then, it was the biggest cruise season in the history of Alagoas. In addition to the increase in the number of stops, the state received larger ships with longer routes.

Secretary Bárbara Braga also highlights that the success of the 23/24 season is the result of all the work done together to promote the Alagoas Destination and the State Government’s investment in the tourism sector, generating an infrastructure that can receive all tourists who arrive in Alagoas.

“There were countless achievements achieved in the sector and the end of the 23/24 cruise season ends the high season of Destination Alagoas with a flourish. This demonstrates that the public-private partnership strengthens tourism in our state and shows the importance of these connections to increasingly boost our destination. Tourists arriving through the capital’s port visit our hotels, bars, restaurants and crafts. This flow goes beyond the capital, with visits to neighboring cities, other tourist regions are boosted, promoting regional development, boosting the economy and generating jobs and income for our people from Alagoas”, concluded the Secretary of State.

Throughout the season, Setur was present with an information desk to serve visitors at the Port of Maceió. In the disembarkation area, bilingual promoters, fluent in English and Spanish, welcomed cruisers and distributed promotional materials with tourist information about the Alagoas Destination.

Economic impact for the 24/25 season

According to a study carried out by the International Cruise Lines Association (Clia), it is estimated that each tourist on board generates a financial impact of R$606 at the stopping point. Based on the research, if the available beds are occupied, it is expected that more than R$80 million will be injected into the state’s economy with the flow of tourists arriving through these cruises.
