He was grateful for the opportunity given by President Valdemar Neto to lead the team and recognized that the team ended up failing when it had the chance to guarantee the state cup.
– I just have to thank Rio Branco for giving this very large space, a great team from Acre. And to President Neto because he gave what we asked for at the club. At the beginning of the championship we had a very good boost, everyone believed that we were going to be champions and at the end, in the last three rounds, we didn’t play the football we had planned, together with the players, the coaching staff and with the board. I think we missed a great opportunity to be champion – he said.
Vaguinho Santos did not hide his upset at not achieving the objective for which he was hired – winning his second state championship and a full calendar for 2025.
– I’m sad because Rio Branco is a jersey team, a big team from Acre, president Neto is alone, he does everything for the club, so we’re upset about that. But it is a lesson not only for the coaching staff but also for the athletes. We had the title in our hands and let it slip. I think there was a lack of a little more boldness, of determination from the committee, from the athletes. It’s sad, but to close the cycle I had to be champion – she said.
He also apologized to the fans, who will not see Estrelão on the national stage next year.
– Apologize to the fans, who are upset too. We had three games to be champion and we didn’t do it. Of course the fans are sad, as they are the biggest fans in the state. The club also has no calendar for next year. At least, as a coach and the players themselves, we had to leave the calendar for next year to the club because we got it with the calendar. So, the least we had to do for the president was leave the calendar for next year. But that’s football, there’s no looking back now. You have to look ahead, I will move on with my life and I give my sincere hug to Rio Branco – he concluded.
Vaguinho Santos led Rio Branco-AC in three competitions: Copa Verde, Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Acreano. There were 13 games with six wins, four draws and three defeats, 16 goals scored and 13 conceded, with a success rate of 56.4%.
In the state championship, Alvirrubro finished in fourth place with a second round campaign of five games, two wins, one draw, two defeats, five goals scored and seven conceded. The overall campaign at Acreano was 10 games, five wins, three draws and two defeats, 14 goals for and 10 against.
