Since the revocation, the municipality of 17,600 inhabitants had three interim mayors. Currently, the councilor Ancelmo Olin (PDT) serves in the Executive. He took office in early April, after the previous interim mayor, Miguel Lamberty (MDB), resigned from his position in order to run in the October elections.

Lamberty was at city hall for less than a month. Before that, the councilor Franklin “Buiú” Pereira (PDT) took over the mayor’s office, between the impeachment of the former incumbent and the election of Lamberty.

In October, all municipalities in Brazil hold municipal elections. Those elected in the regular election will govern São Francisco de Assis between 2025 and 2028.

According to the Public Ministry, candidate for councilor Vasco Carvalho had negotiated the delivery of basic food baskets at the request of candidates Cortelini and Oliveira.

Investigators indicated evidence that Oliveira had paid businessmen and paid for fuel for voters in exchange for votes. The complaint also states that the politicians promised maintenance in different regions of the city in exchange for votes.

Paulo Renato Cortelini had his diploma revoked, but was not declared ineligible. At the time of the conviction, the politician said he regretted the TSE’s decision and that he would appeal to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Jeremias Oliveira had his diploma revoked and was declared ineligible for eight years. He stated that there was no vote buying in the elections. Vasco Carvalho, who also had his diploma revoked and was declared ineligible, maintained that there was a setup by the opposing parties and that he would seek the nullity of the process.
