MA advances in integration with delivery of section of BR-226 between Caxias and Timon

A project of great impact for Maranhão was delivered this Friday (26): The 100-kilometer stretch of BR-226, between the town of Baú, in Caxias, to the city of Timon. The work was carried out by the federal government and the important moment was attended by several authorities, including governor Carlos Brandão, senators, federal and state deputies; in addition to political leaders and the population directly benefiting.

Alongside the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, who officially completed the work, Governor Carlos Brandão expressed gratitude for the investments made in the state and highlighted the union of public agents to realize a dream of more than 40 years for the population of Caxias and Timon .

“This is a road that brings Maranhão and Piauí even closer together, realizing a struggle of many people, politicians and authorities, who are here today, celebrating with President Lula’s representative, who is minister Renan Filho, a great friend of the Maranhão, as well as Senator Marcelo Castro (PI), who allocated resources for this road and to all the politicians who contributed to making this dream come true”, highlighted Governor Carlos Brandão.

Minister Renan Filho recalled that the federal government is committed to doing its work so that the country can move forward and guarantee better living conditions for all Brazilians, in addition to boosting the economy.

“President Lula resumed investments in the country and with this we are able to guarantee that works, which were an old dream, get off the ground and materialize, as happened now with BR-226 and that is why people are so happy here. I want to congratulate Governor Carlos Brandão for his work and partnerships with the Federal Government and for helping Maranhão move forward”, stated the minister.

During the delivery, Renan Filho highlighted that the country suffered from a reduction in public investment in previous years and that this has changed from 2023 onwards. As an example, he cited investments by the Ministry of Transport – while in 2022 the investment was R $300 million, in 2023 the federal government invested R$800 million and the forecast for 2024 is R$900 million.

“This increase in investment guarantees the delivery of new works and the carrying out of works as important as the duplication of BR-135 for the metropolitan region of São Luís. This week I was in Santa Inês observing the effects of heavy rains and we have already repaired the highway , the Army bridge is being installed. We are not doing any favors, we are doing what Maranhão needs to move forward,” he said.

The union of efforts was highlighted by the mayors of Caxias, Fábio Gentil; and Timon, Dinair Veloso, who were present at the ceremony. In addition to municipal managers, the agenda held by the federal government in Timon for the delivery of the BR-226 section also included the participation of senators Weverton Rocha (MA) and Marcelo Castro (PI), ministers Wellington Dias (Development and Social Assistance , Family and Combating Hunger) and Juscelino Filho (Communications), in addition to several federal and state deputies, among other relevant political and civil society representations.
