This Wednesday morning (25/04), the City of Rio de Janeiro and the State Government announced the operational plan for the singer’s show Madonna at Copacabana beachSouth Zone of Rio, on 04/05.
The presentation by the North American artist, considered the “Queen of Pop”, is scheduled to start at 9:45 pm (Brasília time) and should last approximately 120 minutes. Before that, the American DJ Diplo will play, at 8pm, and other DJs, from 7pm.
The expectation of the RJ public authorities is that around 1.5 million people will attend the event. The stage will be located in front of the Copacabana Palace hotel, in the Posto 2 region.
The operational scheme will be very similar to that of the famous local New Year’s Eve. The Military Police will mobilize more than 3 thousand agents to work at the show, with 18 inspection points. It is worth noting that glass bottles and containers, as well as sharp objects in general, are prohibited.
Traffic
On May 2nd, parking will be prohibited on practically all streets in Copacabana, so that the neighborhood is already “clean” for the event.
On 05/04, the day of the event, the Avenida Atlântica track located next to the beach will be closed at dawn, as is usually the case on Sundays and holidays. At 11 am, in turn, the lane of the same road located close to the buildings will also be closed to vehicle circulation.
At 6pm, only taxis and buses will be able to enter Copacabana, and at 7:30pm, the neighborhood will be completely closed to traffic.
Public transportation
The best way to get to Copacabana on the day of the event will be via metro. The aforementioned means of transport will operate until 4am on 05/05 for boarding at Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo stations, all in the neighborhood itself.
At the other stations, operation will follow the standard Saturday hours, that is, from 5 am to midnight, for boarding, with disembarkation allowed until 4 am for the return of the event.
Regarding buses, there will be a direct line from the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal, in São Cristóvão, North Zone of Rio, to Avenida Princesa Isabel, in Copacabana, with a return ticket costing R$8.60, exclusively on the Jaé card.
At the same time, BRTs will circulate during the early hours of the morning to help transport the public, and regular buses will be available for boarding and disembarking at Praia de Botafogo, as is already the case on New Year’s Eve.
Structure
Madonna will have around 200 people in her team for the event. All of them will be staying at Copacabana Palace, divided into 90 rooms. The hotel even set aside 5 rooms for rehearsals. The singer’s show will feature 80 tons of equipment, transported in 3 cargo planes and 30 trucks.
