Sarney’s party demanded demands from Pacheco and Brito in the campaign

With the exception of Elmar Nascimento, all pre-candidates for president of the Chamber were at the celebration of the former president’s 94th birthday

The birthday party of former president José Sarney (MDB), held on Wednesday (April 24, 2024) in Lago Sul, an upscale region of Brasília, brought together part of the power leadership. One of the most talked about issues was the cancellation of the joint session of Congress (Senate and Chamber), which could overturn presidential vetoes on projects approved by the Legislature.

The person responsible for calling or canceling the session is the president of Congress. In this case, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). The miner arrived at the party around 8pm. He greeted the former president, posed for photos and stopped for greetings and quick conversations with other guests.

Among those present were federal deputies. O Power360 witnessed two conversations in which Pacheco was accused of canceling the session. One of them was the rapporteur of the LDO (Budget Guidelines Law), Danilo Forte (União Brasil-CE). He spoke precisely about vetoes on committee amendments and the payment schedule.

“He [Pacheco] said it was good for senators to have more time to evaluate the issue in more detail“, he stated.

The explanation did not gain much support from deputies. The final reading was that Pacheco gave in to the government’s requests, something he does not say publicly.

Brito in campaign

Federal deputy Antonio Brito (PSD-BA) was one of the most excited at the party. Pre-candidate for President of the Chamber with the sympathy of Palácio do Planalto, he moved from group to group and, without many restrictions, spoke about his electoral intentions.

“Next year, I want to count on your vote“, he told a group of deputies. It was answered with the same animation.

In addition to Brito, there were 2 other pre-candidates at the party: Marcos Pereira (Republicanos-SP) and Isnaldo Bulhões (MDB-AL). Both were more restrained. Even so, they spoke to different groups in various conversation circles.

Of the main pre-candidates for president of the Chamber, Elmar Nascimento (União Brasil-BA) was the only one absent from the party. He is the preferred name of President Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
