Next Monday (08), the Penha Festival is celebrated. The date has been considered a state holiday since 2019, with the signing of the Law 11.010/2019, signed by governor Renato Casagrande. The law determines that the celebration will always be on Monday, the eighth day after Easter Sunday.

In Vila Velha, it is common for businesses to be closed, as is customary on holidays. However, in other cities in the state, this practice does not always happen, and workers work normally.

Working on holidays

According to the CLT, working on holidays is not prohibited. The law determines that some sectors such as hospitals, pharmacies, gas stations, industries and supermarkets remain open, even on commemorative dates, and may operate during special hours.

Anyone who works on that date must receive an extra amount for the hour worked on the holiday. In other words, if a person receives R$15 per hour, when working on a holiday, they must be paid double. If overtime is still worked on that date, the value would be R$30 (double the normal hourly rate) + R$15 (normal hourly rate), totaling R$45 per hour worked.

Penha Festival

Faithful from all over Espírito Santo will have the opportunity to participate in the Festa da Penha 2024, which started last Sunday and runs until April 8, in Prainha, in Vila Velha. During the nine days, there will be 50 masses, 10 attractions in Parque da Prainha and more than 10 pilgrimages that promise to attract more than 2.5 million participants. The closing ceremony will feature a free show with country singer Michel Teló.

Several activities in the program will be broadcast on the internet, including the Pilgrimage of Men, which will take place on Saturday (6), starting at 7 pm. On Sunday (7), after the Closing Mass of the Women’s Pilgrimage, singer and composer Thiago Brado will perform at Parque da Prainha with his new show “Clássicos da Igreja”.
