A 55-year-old cyclist died after being run over by a car on the MT-344, in Dom Aquino, 172 km from Cuiabá, this Sunday (31). The victim was identified as Jurani Rodrigues de Miranda.

According to the Civil Police, the teams were informed of a body found lying on the side of the highwayclose to the Barroso stream region, around 4pm.

According to the nurse from the Jaciara Fire Department, Edinaldo Fernando de Souza, when the teams arrived at the scene, the victim was already dead.

“His bicycle was badly damaged and he had several injuries on his body. That is a region where there are a lot of cyclists and there is no shoulder and the person who collided with the cyclist did not provide assistance,” he says.

Politec was at the scene and confirmed the death. The Civil Police investigates the case.

This is the second case of a cyclist being run over on a highway in Mato Grosso in March. In the beginning of the month, public servant Eva Patrícia da Silva Marques, who works at the Environment Secretariat of Várzea Grande, metropolitan region of Cuiabá, was run over while riding a bicycle along the MT-040 Highway, in Santo Antônio de Leverger, 33 km from the capital.

Until last information, Eva was transferred to a private hospital in Várzea Grande, metropolitan region of Cuiabá, and remains in a coma.
