World Youth Day: Promoting the protagonism of young people from Tocantins in sports and the job market are highlights

March 30th is marked by World Youth Day, a date created by the United Nations World Organization (UN) to reinforce the role of young people in society. And it is with youth in mind that the Government of Tocantins, through the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth (Seju), invests in public policies focused on processes to promote sport, leisure and insertion into the job market.

The youth of Tocantins are known for their protagonism in sports. Representing the Tocantins flag wherever she goes, Giovanna Lacerda, 21 years old, is today one of the main triathletes in the country. “I’m happy to have this representation, it’s always good to serve as an example for other people and young people. I always try to do my best, because anything is possible. When we get to the top, the hardest thing is to stay there, we fight every day and we are always there, learning, evolving”, highlighted the young woman who at the beginning of March, with the support of the Government of Tocantins, through from the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth, represented Brazil in the Pan-American Triathlon Championship in Miami, in the United States.

With the support of the Government of Tocantins, Giovanna collects podiums in events such as the Copa América de Triathlon, in Manta, Ecuador and the South American Championship, in Lima, Peru. Recently, the Brazilian Army athlete also stood out in the Unitins Race. “Nowadays, athletes don’t walk alone. The Department of Sports and Youth has always supported me with my tests and this helps me a lot. This support is important for me, as it helps with my growth, my evolution as an athlete. Every support we have, every support, is always very welcome”, highlighted the athlete.

The Government of Tocantins, through the State Secretariat for Labor and Social Development (Setas), develops the Young Worker, the largest first job program in the North of Brazil, whose main focus is the insertion of young people aged between 16 and 21 into the job market. The program is run by the National Network for Learning, Social Promotion and Integration (Renapsi). Currently, the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth has 14 young people who are supported by the program, which has already benefited more than 2,400 young people.

The program Young Worker allows the inclusion of young people like Marcos Henrique de Carvalho, 17 years old, a third-year high school student at Colégio Estadual Dom Alano Du Noday. “For me it is important to be part of the job market, as it allows me to have a vision of the future and this opportunity will help me a lot. I had a dream of working in administration, because my father worked in this area and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. In this way, I am supporting my family to seek a better future”, said the young man who works at the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth.

Youth 4.0

Still in the construction phase and Public Call process, by the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth, the Space 4.0 program, will enable the implementation of public policies aimed at young people. The program will be implemented with the aim of applying the educational and professional nature, providing personal growth and contributing to the quality of teaching and learning of young people in Palmas and neighboring cities.

O Space 4.0 program it will enable the mobilization of young people in a differentiated education process, through courses and training, promoting the development of citizenship, based on the principles of inclusion, totality, cooperation, autonomy, regionalism and integration. It will also aim to promote the digital inclusion of young people aged 15 to 29, through the approach of new Industry 4.0 technologies, with the aim of reducing the rate of social and economic vulnerability and crime among young people. Training will also be one of the actions aimed at promoting youth 4.0, as provided for in PPA 2024/2027.

During the month of March, the Government of Tocantins participated in several debates that marked discussions about the construction of youth policies. In Brasília, representatives from the State Secretariat for Sports and Youth participated in the meeting of the official youth engagement group at the G20 and in the preparation of the National Youth Plan. The events aimed to debate proposals aimed at promoting public youth policies, with a focus on youth protagonism and socioeconomic development in Brazil.
