One nursing technique was removed after applying breast milk, instead of serum, into the vein of a newborn baby in a hospital in Novo Hamburgo, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre (RS). According to the hospital, the baby is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and his health is stable.

To the Record newspaper, the family said that the baby was born prematurely, at 29 weeks, on March 15, in Venâncio Aires, 130 kilometers from the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Shortly after birth, the newborn was taken to the neonatal ICU.

About to be discharged, however, the family was notified of the medical error. The parents were informed, on April 18, that the nursing technician had applied breast milk to the child’s vein, which required intubation.

After the incident, the professional was removed from her position. In a statement, the hospital and the Regional Nursing Council state that they are investigating the case to take further action. O Earth Try to contact the child’s family. The space remains open for demonstrations.
