The Rio de Janeiro Carnival Special Group will have three days of parades starting in 2025. This decision was endorsed by the samba schools during a plenary meeting held at the headquarters of the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro (Liesa) this Monday on Friday (6) and will force Globo to change its programming.
In addition to the traditional parades on Sunday and Monday, the public will also be able to follow the samba schools on the Tuesday of revelry. This will not, therefore, harm the São Paulo parade, which is shown on Friday and Saturday, but will force the Rio broadcaster to maintain a million-dollar structure on an extra night. Carnival is no longer offering the same advertising values as before.

The configuration approved for 2025 foresees that four schools will perform each day. This unprecedented change will also affect the judging process: juror scores will be finalized at the end of each day. Unidos de Padre Miguel, current champion of the Gold Series, will open on Sunday, followed by Unidos da Tijuca on Monday and Mocidade on Tuesday. The remaining schools will be divided into groups, with the order of presentation defined by draw.
Liesa’s president, Gabriel David, highlighted that this initiative aims to make tickets more accessible, enabling more people to be present at the Sambadrome on different days. Furthermore, according to him, the show will be even more attractive, with new features to keep the public in Sapucaí until dawn after the end of each day.
