Felipe Neto used social media to reveal that he intends to adopt the mare rescued from a roof in Canoas, one of the cities most affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

“Caramelo is a mare! I told her that I want to adopt her, but they are researching whether she already has an owner. If you allow me, I will give her everything I can… And her name will be Caramela. Let’s wait and trust the veterinarians, because she is still at risk,” he said on X, formerly Twitter.

The video of a mare trapped on a roof in Canoas, one of the cities most affected by the storms in Rio Grande do Sul, went viral on social media and mobilized volunteers to rescue the animal. Caramela, as he became affectionately known, was rescued this Thursday morning (9).

In the images, the animal appears being carried by eight rescuers from the Fire Department, who arrived at the scene with two boats. Working together, the teams managed to sedate the animal, place it in one of the boats and remove it from the site. Dogs nearby were also taken away by firefighters.

This morning, First Lady Janja da Silva reported that General Hertz Pires do Nascimento, commander of Brazilian Army operations in Rio Grande do Sul, mobilized teams to locate and rescue the mare. “Army vets must follow. Let’s hope Caramelo survived tonight [de quarta-feira]”, added Janja, who assured that the animal already has a stud farm to stay at.

The image, captured by a TV Globo helicopter on Wednesday (8), shocked Brazilians and became one of the symbols of the catastrophe in the state.

On social media, celebrities and internet users were moved by the animal’s rescue. “It’s impossible for anyone with a heart not to be moved by this caramel scene, no animal with such innocence should have to go through this”, commented one. “Happy with the rescue scene of the horse Caramelo and the puppies that were close to him. Felipe Neto, one of the celebrities who mobilized to rescue the animal, also gave details about the organization of the rescue. “The army helicopter is in the air. The team of specialized veterinarians is on standby. Other rescue teams by boat are also arriving at the scene. The situation is very delicate, no one knows what condition Caramelo is in and whether he will resist” , said the influencer, who also responded to comments about helping other animals there.

“We know that there are dogs close to Caramelo. Nobody intends to look at the dogs and turn their back. There are several people rescuing and dogs are relatively ‘easy’ when compared to the horse’s situation. Let’s trust in the work of these angels”, he added.
