A year after being cured of bowel cancer, singer Simony, 47, revealed that she had spent more than R$500,000 on the treatment. Without health insurance at the time, she says she had to sell her assets.
“When I discovered the cancer, I had no health insurance. I had to undergo treatment privately. I spent more than half a million reais. We sold a piece of land there, a business here, and we managed to get that money. Now I have a plan of health”, she said to PodC, a podcast presented by Celso Portiolli.
Mother of four, Simony underwent intense chemotherapy treatment from August 2022 to July 2023 and today undergoes immunotherapy sessions.
“Today I undergo a very expensive treatment, which now the health plan will start paying for, but each immunotherapy I undergo, every 21 days, costs R$61,000. I have to undergo two years of this treatment. I’ve already completed one year” , account.
“I get upset when people say some things. Well, I’ve worked since I was a child, I had to get rid of some of my things. I never asked anyone for anything, despite having wonderful friends who offered it to me, but I didn’t want to and I preferred to sell an asset to pay treatment”, he adds.
Singer has four children
Recently, the singer showed that her hair grew back after the end of chemotherapy. After the illness, she says she started to have a different outlook on life:
“I was never materialistic, and after cancer, I’m not materialistic anymore. I didn’t want to buy anything for myself. I always spent everything on my children. But now if I want to buy a designer bag, if I feel like If I have one, I’m going to buy it, because I don’t know how long I’ll be here.”
On July 7, 2023, Simony shared on social media that she was cured of bowel cancer. “It’s a lot of gratitude to God. A lot of miracle. I don’t even know what to say to you, just that I’m very happy. I’m going to finish this cycle of treatment”, said the artist at the time.
