Brian McCardie, a Scottish actor known for his performance in the first season of Outlander as Sir Marcus MacRannoch, has passed away at the age of 59. The news was confirmed by his sister, Sarah McCardie, via Twitter, although the cause of death was not mentioned.

McCardie was preparing to return to the fantasy series’ universe with the spin-off Outlander: Blood of My Blood, where he had been cast to play the character Isaac Grant. However, filming for the production had not yet begun, and the role will have to be recast.
