The billionaire Elon Musk shared on his social network, Twitter/X, a graph that shows the increase in the use of the words “racist”, “racists” and “racism” in the main newspapers in the United States from 2010 to 2020. Referring to this as a “mental virus woke“, he stated: “Infection rate almost 100%, but now he will die”.
The graph, presented by Musk this Wednesday, 24th, analyzes the use of expressions by four major newspapers over ten years.
“The same happened with the media online and the education system,” Musk wrote. “Then it spread to other countries.”

O Los Angeles Times (LAT) leads the increase in terms employment, with an increase of 756%.
The newspaper from California, a state known for having a progressive bias, is closely followed by its competitor from the country’s East Coast. O New York Times (NYT) recorded a significant increase in terms employment of 712%.
In third place is the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)with a growth of 468%, and, fourth, the Washington Post (WP)with 361%.

The reaction of followers
In response, right-wing journalist Ian Miles Cheong said that young activists are taking on prominent roles in companies and the media, often canceling or publicly criticizing those who previously held these positions.
The Malaysian, with almost 1 million followers, joked that these new professionals were trained on Tumblr, a platform known for its activist and progressive content.
“The ‘woke’ young people who write for newspapers are all Tumblr graduates and are changing the corporate culture in these places, canceling their predecessors,” Cheong responded to Musk.

Another who took a stand was British rapper Zuby. “There are people who think that the United States is more racist now than it was 100 years ago,” wrote the black musician. “Clown show”, he added.
Anthropologist Robert Sepehr, specialized in linguistics and archaeology, related the increased use of the terms woke to the arrival of Democrat Barack Obama in the White House in 2009. In the end, he quipped: “But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.”
