The first Painting Atelier will be guided by the artist Filipa Godinho and will be dedicated to the art of Portrait, from thinking to practical creation. Students will be able to develop the painting technique applied to portraits, representing iconic artists who have already passed through the Coliseumexperimenting with different drawing techniques (such as charcoal, pen and graphite) and painting (acrylic, watercolor and pastel).

From the shape of the head to the look, from the smile to color, light and shadow, in this short painting course participants will develop techniques that allow them to summon emotion and make it inhabit the image, bringing looks and faces to life. At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Coliseum and, who knows, be seen by some of the artists portrayed.

The visual arts are at the roots of the Coliseum. Even before it was built as the Coliseum that everyone knows (1941), in this place, in the old Jardim Passos Manuel, exhibitions and creations by young artists were already supported, from painting, to dance, cinema and music. In the visual arts component, the 1916 exhibition stands out, in the Jardim Passos Manuel Hall, where Amadeo Souza Cardoso had his first solo exhibition, with 114 works, with the title “abstractionism”.

The existence of an Educational Service at the Coliseum, which began in 2023, brings the desire to honor this legacy, adding to all the arts that the Coliseum already hosts, painting and fine arts. It will be precisely in the Jardim Salon, a room whose name pays homage to this story, that the first painting classes at the Coliseu Educational Service will take place.

The Painting Atelier – Portrait takes place between May 14th and June 26th and will last 20 hours, divided into eight sessions. It is available to people over 15 years old, with or without previous experience. Registration can be made via email [email protected] or via the Coliseu website at www.coliseu.pt/educativo/atelier-pintura.
