Helldivers 2 was a surprise as Sony usually failed at games as a service and this time that wasn’t the case. However, a large part of its community is upset and has decided to flood the title with negative reviews on Steam. The reason? A decision by PlayStation.

Through a statement, the companies informed that players of the title on Steam will have to link your Valve platform account to a PlayStation Network account, without exception. The measure will be applied from May 6th to new players. Sony wants to force everyone to create accounts and increase PSN numbers!

As of May 30th, current players in the title will be required to log inn. Subsequently, from June 4th, they must have their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts linked to be able to play.

According to the details, account linking was optional during launch due to technical issues; However, it will now be a necessary step to play. The developers stated that this measure will upset some, but that it will serve to protect players. As expected, the community disagrees.

“It is our main tool for protecting players from offensive and abusive behavior, because it allows us to disable players who behave in this way. It also offers disqualified players the ability to appeal the decision,” the companies stated.

Shortly after the announcement, the game began to receive negative reviews on Steam. In all of them, users express their dissatisfaction and discomfort with the requirement to link accounts to continue playing. Many players have criticized PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios for ruining such a successful launch with a measure they consider abusive. Arrowhead Game pulled the wool over their eyes and blamed Sony for it:

Several fans of the title have stated that they are not willing to open and link a PlayStation Network account when they invested their money in Steam and supported the launch. There are even people who say they will abandon the title and, if possible, would ask for the reimbursement.

“I purchased this game on Steam with the intention of playing it on Steam. Now I don’t have and will never have a PlayStation account. Forcing players to link them or be banned from the game months after release is unacceptable,” states one of the many negative reviews.
