Present in UFC 301held in Rio de Janeiro last Saturday (4), Alex Poatanlight heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.), had a curious moment when he ‘slept’ during the announcement of Anthony Smithone of its main rivals in the division.
Smith, who had already declared interest in facing and believes he can beat Poatan, concluded Vitor Petrino in the first round, but apparently he didn’t impress the Brazilian.
In a video published on Instagram stories, Poatan appears pretending to sleep while Smith was introduced by Bruce Buffer. Supported by Plinio Cruz, his coach, the champion showed indifference to his rival.
Featured in the category’s ranking for six years, Smith proved that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level. Faced with the Brazilian promise, the company veteran defended the tenth position in the division and recovered from the defeat suffered by Khalil Rountree at the end of 2023.
The fight against Petrino began with the Brazilian taking the initiative, but the North American quickly adapted and applied a guillotine choke, ending the fight in the first round.
