The population hurriedly emptied Avenida Assis Brasil after increasing the water flow in the Fiergs dike, in the north of Porto Alegre. Despite reports provided at the scene that the dike had broken, the city hall clarified that what had occurred was a greater yield of water leaking from the gate. The episode surprised residents around 4pm this Saturday.
The scene was one of complete chaos, with people running to escape the water, cars traveling on the wrong side of the road and businesses trying to save products. The Army and EPTC are on site trying to guide people.
The dike continues to be monitored. Families in the region are being removed and oriented.

The Fiergs dike was already a warning point in Porto Alegre. On Friday, the gate was reinforced with sandbags to contain a flow of water.
