According to the latest report issued by the Civil Defense of Santa Catarina, there are four municipalities that have declared an emergency situation due to the heavy rains. In addition to Araranguá, Praia Grande and São João do Sul, Ipira – where one death was recorded – also declared an emergency.

At least 193 people are homeless, 46 are homeless and there is a record of one injured person in Caçador. So far, 33 municipalities have been hit by the rains that arrived in Santa Catarina with a large volume last Thursday, May 2nd. No humanitarian assistance items were requested.

The teams from the Santa Catarina Military Fire Department (CBMSC) have responded, since Wednesday the 1st, to 114 calls, in 55 municipalities employing 248 firefighters and 82 vehicles. Most of these calls are concentrated in the region of the 11th Military Fire Brigade (11th BBM) based in Joaçaba, in the west of Santa Catarina.

Three Task Force (FT) teams have already been activated and continue to operate, they are FT-11 in Joaçaba, FT-12 in São Miguel do Oeste and FT-14 in Xanxerê. All other FT teams in the State are on standby in case there is a need to increase the response to the population.

The Secretariat of Protection and Civil Defense emphasizes that teams from the Government of the State of Santa Catarina continue to work in an integrated manner to provide the necessary assistance to the affected population.

The Integrated Risk and Disaster Management Center (Cigerd) is operating at a low-risk yellow level, with intensified monitoring, monitoring the meteorological scenario and assistance.

Furthermore, teams from Santa Catarina are helping to rescue people affected by heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul. Military firefighters have so far rescued 516 people.

Between this Saturday, the 4th, and the morning of Sunday, the 5th, atmospheric instabilities are concentrated over the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul, close to the border areas with Santa Catarina, which may bring persistent, voluminous rains and isolated thunderstorms.

Between the south of the Southern Plateau and the Southern Coast, rains continue throughout this period, with weak to moderate intensity. Over the next 24 hours, forecast rainfall volumes may vary between 40 mm and 70 mm.

In all areas bordering the state of Rio Grande do Sul, there are conditions for the development of isolated storms, with lightning, gusts of wind, occasionally intense rain and occasional hail.

Given this scenario, it is recommended that residents pay attention to weather warnings and alerts issued by the Secretariat of Protection and Civil Defense and follow the guidelines of official bodies of the Government of Santa Catarina.
