Locomotiva Rugby Araraquara held this Wednesday (1st), at the Parque do Pinheirinho training ground, a mixed training session with the male, female and youth categories. The activity, which integrates the team’s preparation for friendlies and tournaments in the second semester, was also carried out with the intention of recruiting new athletes for the group led by coach Alexandre Uehara.
One of the competitions that make up the team’s planning is the Lions, the most traditional tournament in Brazil, which takes place at the end of the year. The team, however, needs to get back into the competition rhythm, as it has not competed in tournaments since 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic began. The group never stopped training, but now hopes to get the sport’s calendar moving again, with friendly matches leading up to the national competition.
The team was founded in December 2007 by Fernando de João Braga and since then has been attracting practitioners and people who got to know the sport thanks to the team. Locomotiva’s name is a tribute to the Railway, as is the garnet, which makes up its uniform along with the color black. The team has already competed in the Campeonato Paulista do Interior, has already competed in the Lions, which is the most famous rugby sevens tournament in Brazil, and has already had a player on the Brazilian national team for the sport, the athlete Sandy.
In this resumption, the team has a partnership with Fundesport, which will make the fields available for training and games. The team is also open to new practitioners. To do this, simply attend one of the team’s training sessions, which take place on Thursdays, at 7:30 pm, at Praça Scalamandré Sobrinho (field next to the basketball court) and on Sundays, at 10 am, on the Parque do Pinheirinho field.
Men and women, aged 15 and over, can practice, but minors need a written declaration from their guardians. There is no need to take any material to train, the only requirement is that the person wears football boots, socks, shorts and a t-shirt.
