Earlier, during an event by the Liberal Party (PL) Mulher in Manaus, Bolsonaro said he would have a meeting at 9 pm to comment on the advance of censorship in the country. “I have an appointment, but I can’t tell you,” he said. “You will only know at the time. A person, without freedom, does not live.”

In the afternoon, North American influencer Mário Nawfal announced the live broadcast and called on users to participate.

“Join us in an exclusive space, with former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, as he discusses the battle for freedom of expression between Elon Musk and Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court,” wrote Nawfal.

Elon Musk responded to the influencer’s post. “Whether you agree with Bolsonaro or not, the people of Brazil have a right to hear him speak,” he said.

Bolsonaro’s interview takes place amid the repercussions of Twitter Files Brasil

Last week, journalist Michael Shellenberger, that revealed the Twitter Files Brazil scandalannounced that he will participate in a hearing in the United States Congress to report the escalation of censorship in Brazil.

The hearing, titled “Brazil: a crisis of democracy, freedom and the rule of law?”, will take place on May 7. Michael Shellenberger will go to Congress at the invitation of the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Michael McCaul.

The United States Congress wants to understand how it can deal with “the serious human rights violations that have been committed by Brazilian authorities on a large scale”.

This idea began to gain strength with criticism from Elon Musk to the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil, mainly to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

“These human rights violations include judicial malfeasance, persecution of political opposition, violation of freedom of expression and muzzling of opposition media outlets,” wrote the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

According to Michael Shellenberger, the audience alone is not enough to contain the advance of totalitarianism in Brazil. “We will still need Congress to act to condemn the outrageous, illegal and immoral behavior of Lula and Alexandre de Moraes,” he added.
