For the first time, BYD surpassed the mark of 7 thousand light vehicles sold in Brazil. This allowed the Chinese manufacturer to maintain 10th position in the ranking and is now threatening the positions of Honda (8th) and Nissan (9th). Information from UOL.
BYD is investing in hybrid and electric vehicles, while Nissan and Honda are still focused on flex combustion engines. Interestingly, Nissan was the electric car market leader with the Leaf two years ago, but decided to change its strategy. In the case of Honda, its hybrid models are very expensive and have a low sales volume.
Data released by Fenabrave show Fiat in 1st place with 42.1 thousand sales (20.2% of the market). Volkswagen came in 2nd with 33.4 thousand sales (16.1%) and Chevrolet ended April in 3rd place with 29.8 thousand sales (14.3%).
In a press release, BYD reported a lower number of sales (6,965 units), disregarding its own registrations in the light commercial vehicle segment. However, there is a reason for this: when considering only the passenger car ranking, BYD rises to 9th position.
The official ranking, which includes medium and small pickup trucks and SUVs, places BYD in 10th position. Another notable point is the growth of Caoa Chery, another Chinese car manufacturer, which occupies 11th position. See Fenabrave’s ranking below with April sales.
