One severe solar storm could trigger blackouts and disrupt orbiting satellites and power grids here on Earth this weekend. The alert was given by the United States Space Weather Prediction Center.
According to the agency, the geomagnetic storm must reach the level G4O second highest on a five-level scaleand the effects of this are predicted to arrive on Earth between this Friday (9) and next Sunday (12).

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), since Wednesday (8) the sun has been producing strong solar flares, which resulted in five plasma explosions. Each of them can contain billions of tons of solar plasma.
NOAA calls it an unusual event, pointing out that the explosions appear to be associated with a sunspot with 16 times the diameter of the Earth.
An extreme geomagnetic storm in 2003 knocked out power in Sweden and damaged power transformers in South Africa.
