The model Lauren Wasser He went through a serious infection process, in which he almost lost his life, due to the use of tampons. The case happened in October 2012, when she was 24 years old. When using the menstrual product, she began to feel flu-like symptoms, which soon worsened and she had her legs amputated.

As her symptoms progressed, she was taken to the hospital, where she ended up suffering two heart attacks, kidney failure and decomposition in the tissues of her legs. Therefore, doctors had to amputate his right limb and some toes on his left foot.
In 2018, the model underwent another surgery, to amputate her left leg. This second procedure was motivated by severe pain that Lauren felt, making it impossible for her to walk.
In an episode of podcast Life Uncutshe confirmed that everything happened very quickly. “My life, in 24 hours, completely changed and there was no going back“, said.

Lauren had a rare condition called toxic shock syndrome (TSS), a possibly fatal infection. It can be caused by using a tampon, menstrual cup or an infected wound.
What happens is that bacteria enter the body and release lethal toxins into the bloodstream. Patients who develop this syndrome have a high temperature, severe muscle pain and rashes, which are local changes in the texture or color of the skin.
On the day she was admitted, the model went out to see a group of friends, despite not feeling well. They realized she wasn’t feeling well and told her to go home.
“I was extremely hot, with a fever of 101.5°F, I just wanted to take off all my clothes. My dog was jumping on me ferociously and barking at me. He knew something was wrong. My body was shutting down“, remembered.
A few hours later, Lauren was found passed out in her home. In hospital, she suffered two heart attacks, her organs began to fail and she was placed in a medically induced coma for a week and a half. The health professionals who cared for her gave the model a 1% chance of survival and prepared her parents for the worst.
“I was an active young woman and used the same brand of tampons I’d been using since I started menstruating. People think they’re invincible, but no one is off limits.”he stated.
