5-year-old child dead and hidden in concrete is identified 35 years later; mother is arrested

A 5-year-old girl who died and hid under concrete in 1988 was identified last Monday, the 13th, by the police of Massachusettsus U.S.

After 35 years, American authorities now know that the child encased in concrete and abandoned in a forested area in rural southeast Georgia was little Kenyatta Odom. The information is from The New York Times.

Kenyatta Odom’s death and identity were mysteries for years. DNA testing began years ago, but it was a tip received in January that led to the girl’s identification.

The reason or how Kenyatta’s death occurred was not indicated. The only information is that the child died after his feet and legs were submerged in hot water. The child’s mother and her boyfriend were charged with murder.

Kenyatta’s body was found in 1988 in an old TV cabinet, wrapped in a blanket, placed in a backpack and then surrounded by concrete, at an illegal dump in Millwood, Ware County, Georgia.

Evelyn Odom, 56, Kenyatta’s mother, and Ulyster Sanders, her boyfriend at the time, were arrested last Thursday, the 9th. A grand jury in Dougherty County, which includes Albany, indicted them for aggravated murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, concealment of a corpse and other crimes.
